He agreed to testify against other suspects in exchange for prosecutors dropping charges of conspiring to levy war against the United States and conspiring to provide material support for terrorism. Hawash will serve at least seven years in federal prison under the deal, which was approved by U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft.

Umm...where did it say he was plotting to blow up civilians? I think he pled guilty to aiding the taliban, or at least wanting to. It looks like the DOJ will take anything, including dropping their significant charges, to get some sort of conviction. Kind of like being charged with murder and getting convicted of shoplifting.

I'd say given the response of our government, Osama bin Laden has managed to do pretty good damage -- after all he's persuaded Ashcroft, Bush and much of the American public that the US Constitution isn't worth much.
