Earthquake Politics

Authored by Michael Pate on May 4th, 2003 at 1:05 PM

“Very nice. Earthquakes and trapped kids are now a reason for the Turkish police to face off against Kurds who would rather not be Turkish anyway, but fully know Ankara meters the flow of tents, water and medical supplies. There are two stated reasons for this internecine squabbling, the Kurdish population of the region would have us believe that the Turkish government is intentionally withholding relief supplies from a downtrodden minority while the folks in Ankara would have us believe that outside ‘agitators’ are responsible and they are, in actuality, running a model program of search, rescue and relief.” - Al Sessions
