Saudi Terror Attacks

Authored by Michael Pate on May 13th, 2003 at 11:44 AM

“Is it just me, or is the media being incredibly blasé about this story? Shouldn’t this be major news? Why are the networks still dwelling on the Laci Peterson case?” - Charles Johnson

“I think it’s a sign that their reach has grown short, when they can’t arrange terror attacks except in their own hometowns. As for the U.S. withdrawal of troops from Saudi-controlled Arabia, well, it’s not a victory for them. Because, you see, you can’t invade a country if you’re already there…” - Glenn Reynolds

Unfortunately, network news coverage is correspondent driven. When they can get a reporter to a Kuwaiti mall where no one is killed, they cover it day and night. If a bomb explodes and no reporter is there to here it, did it make it a sound? Of course, the other aspect of the story was that I went to bed last night, they were reporting injuries. My morning newspaper said 1 person was killed. After I got to work, the death toll was 10. Now it stands at more than 20. On September 11th, 2001, al Qaeda spent 19 operatives to kill more than 3,000. Yesterday, it took half that number to kill less than 1 percent of last time and this was on their own home turf. Is the War on Terror over? Not even close. Are more innocent people going to die? Unfortunately, yes. Has progress been made? Judging by these results, I would have to say yes.

I couldn't disagree more with GR on this one: driving the foreign invaders out is what makes these people tick, and we have conveniently moved the targets of opportunity within easy range. And I don't think you can measure progress in body count, 3SP. I'm afraid we ain't seen nothing yet. Hope I'm wrong.

Snazzy blog!
