Objective Journalism

Authored by Michael Pate on June 7th, 2003 at 3:50 PM

The red-hot Fox News Channel, which mocks the ideal of objectivity with its ironic use of the slogan “fair and balanced,” is the most visible example of the trend toward pushing opinions via editorial content. - Ed Cone

The Times is a Repblican journal, and will be devoted as in the past to an intelligent support of the Republican Party. It will sustain, with all its ability, the principles and policy of General Grant’s administration - Advertisement for the New York Times in Scientific American, November 27, 1869

Mr Wolfowitz, in fact, had said nothing of the kind, as a deluge of email, most of it from the US, was quick to point out. Some of it registered disappointment more than anything else - disappointment that a valued source of news and liberal comment had in this instance let them down. - Ian Mayes
