MoveOn Primary Prediction

Authored by Michael Pate on June 27th, 2003 at 9:18 AM

My prediction: Howard Dean

Well, what do you know? I was right. Why did I think Dean would win? Because if there is a Second Superpower candidate for the nomination, there is no doubt it is Howard Dean. Not just with Blog for America, but with Howard Dean in 2004, Howard Dean 2004, and others I have seen, he (or his people) has done the best job of harnessing the power of the Internet for his candidacy.

Will it be enough? I doubt it, but it will let him run longer than many of the other candidates. Part of the problem as I see it is that winning a poll on MoveOn.org is the same as one on VOTE.COM. Potentially fun, but utter meaningless from a scientific standpoint. The other problem is the outstanding showing by Dennis Kucinich. Having a genuine fringe candidate score so well does not instill confidence in the mechanism.
