Bastille Day 2003

Authored by Michael Pate on July 14th, 2003 at 10:25 PM

This Bastille Day, I’d like the world to reflect on the glorious contributions of France’s Fifth Republic to peace and civilization across the globe. First and foremost in everyone’s minds is, I’m sure, France’s role in Iraq. Without their staunch opposition to, even obstruction of, American and British will to oust the bloody tyrant Saddam Hussein, the reconstruction underway right now would surely be a bloodbath. By so forcefully and repeatedly telling us that everything we did was wrong—and still is—they’ve reminded our soldiers that killing children for no reason would be a bad thing. And without the massively corrupt company TotalFinaElf helping to bolster Saddam’s regime financially for so long, American intervention now would certainly be perceived as ruthless and bloodthirsty instead of merely imperialist. Thank you, France. - Lummox JR

Heh heh, that's one of the better pithy retorts to the French I've seen, even though I'm in the other camp on the war. There aren't too many players in this game with a strategy based on credible moral authority, so we've had to settle for Saddam's indisputably absolute lack of it, among other things. I mean, as well as his lack of other things, like WMDs. ;-) (Sorry, that's the cheapest laugh of the day.) Cool WayPath thingie, I wish they'd come up with a PHP module.

I was considering removing the WayPath plugin because it had caused site rebuilds to slow to a crawl. The last few days, though, things have sped up considerably.

One of the reasons I like it is because it seems to make for the perfect "fair & balanced" website tool. When it does pull in posts that match the topic, they are usually diametrically opposed to what I was writing. Which is what the blogosphere is all about and why I disagree with Cass Sunstein so much.
