Fourth Reich Revisited

Authored by Michael Pate on September 11th, 2003 at 11:16 AM

A few months ago, I entitled an entry Fourth Reich. If you go back and read it, you will see it is about the rise of anti-semitism in Europe. The other day, someone arrived here as a result of a google search for Fourth Reich. Out of curiosity, I looked through the other pages. What I found invoked another entry from a few days later, Stop the Meme. It is fascinating to me how many people direct their hate not to the people who caused the events of September 11th, but to those who are trying to do something about it. If you don’t like George W. Bush, feel free to support and vote for the candidate of your choice. But comparing him to Adolf Hitler doesn’t serve the interests of anyone.

Americans as a whole have lost their perspective on how insignificant President Bush and this so called "war" in Iraq are. I am a conservative republican and a son of a career Army man to boot. I don't agree with all of what Bush has done in office, particularly the Patriot Act, but this isn't the worst position that our country has ever been in. It is far from it. He isn't the next Hitler. The man may not be bright, but he isn't trying to exterminate an entire people. He hasn't been assassinating his cabinet members. I don't recall seeing a concentration camp anywhere by my parents farm. Please people, don't take away from the seriousness that was Hitler and the Nazi movement. Comparing Bush to Hitler is like saying that a Roman candle will do as much damage to a city as the A-Bomb did in Hiroshima. Just because you don't like Bush doesn't make him a Nazi.

And this "war" that all the little would be hippies are complaining about is little more than a conflict. We haven't actually been in a real battle in close to a year. All of the stuff that we are facing now is minor resistance. Vietnam was a war. Korea was a war. WWII was a war. Anyone that can claim that our conflict in Iraq is on equal par with those and not sound stupid needs to be tested for drugs. I feel for the soldiers and their families. My dad was in Panama, Greneda, Desert Storm, and Somalia. I know what it is like to fear for your relatives, but I knew then that those conflicts weren't wars. There is no chance of them putting the draft into effect here. No need for anyone to run to Canada.

Bottom Line: If you disagree with the policy do something about it. Hold your congressional and presidential incumbents responsible next election. That is the beauty about America...our politicians have accountability. Something that the Nazi party didn't have folks.
