Speaking of the red meat crowd, as we all know, there’s a sizable number of them in the Republican Party as well and in the end they are really the same people. These are the ideologues who persist in seeing the other as the devil (Bush, Clinton) despite the obvious fact that in the grand scheme of human political opinion (from, say, Trotsky’s “endless revolution” to George V’s “endless aristocracy”), Democrats and Republicans represent a tiny sliver in the center. We do not have to go back very far (five minutes ago?) to arguments over the deficit to see Republicans and Democrats quite willing to switch roles to win. So much for their vaunted beliefs. (It all reminds me of the sports analogy I often use on here. Despite years of hating him as if he indeed were the Devil Incarnate—every Laker fan worth his or her salt is now in love with—the recently traded to them—Karl Malone!) - Roger Simon
Hey..don't confuse us steak lovers with Republicans!
