Living and Dying

Authored by Michael Pate on November 7th, 2003 at 11:25 AM

I listen to the pols say we can’t cut and run in Iraq, and I know, with news like this becoming routine, that the day is fast approaching when we will do exactly that. - Dave Winer

Dave thinks he has the answer for keeping members of the military safe. All we have to do is withdraw from Iraq and the threat will be removed.

Of course, the Marines in Beirut and the crew members from USS Cole were not safe. They died without even being in Iraq. Maybe we would withdraw from the Middle East as well.

Except, of course, that wouldn’t work. Look at the active duty personnel who were killed in the Africa Embassy Bombings. Terrorists, unfortunately, have a long reach.

Maybe we could keep tham all safe by securing them within the walls of the Pentagon. Then again, maybe not.

Satayana said, “Those who fail to study history are doomed to repeat it.” I wonder what he would think of those who lack a basic grasp of Current Events. We can only imagine what Dave would have written about Normandy if he had had the chance.
