I have never forgotten a particularly interesting episode of Family Ties from about a few years ago.
When Matt Gilbert tells Steven he has the funds to revive “The Scavenger,” Steven is excited about the opportunity to again express his viewpoints and to vividly recall the college days when he pursued Elyse. It only takes one story for him to realize, however, that he no longer represents the revolutionary left. - My Back Pages
It doesn’t say in the description what the article in question was about. Years before, Steven had written an article entitled “Tweedledum and Tweedledee: The Two Party System.” His new article was about Democratic Chances in 1988. He found that while his views had changed, the people running the newspaper had not. They were no longer idealogically compatible and found they could no longer work together.
The odd thing to me is that it seems things are not as divided in that regard as they once were. Ever since the Seattle Riots, it has seemed to me that there has been a blurring of the lines. I haven’t been able to tell lately where the Democratic Party ended and the radical elements began.
Never has this been more apparent than the statement by Daily Kos last week. The reaction on the left has been mixed. The Kerry Campaign has acted responsibly but other Democratic figures have not.
I just wish we could end all the bitterness and focus on the real issues. I still have hope.
