Ratings and Politics

Authored by Michael Pate on May 2nd, 2004 at 8:32 AM

Despite what he said about it, Ted Koppel and Nightline were making a political statement last night by reading the names of “the fallen” in Iraq. And there is nothing wrong with that— although it is risky because many will object. - Jay Rosen

I had no particular problem with Ted Koppel making a political statement.

Honestly, we did not know that’s when the sweeps begins. We don’t pay a lot of attention to that. - Leroy Sievers

But when you pull a stunt obviously intended to boost ratings, have the courage to admit it. Don’t just claim that it is “pure coincidence.”
