In the Real World

Oliver Willis offers some comments on the current situation and I am so inclined to respond.

the war is going perfectly fine, the media just keeps reporting those pesky facts.

Exhibits 1, 2, and 3.

The war is not going as well as anyone wants, but I can’t help but wonder what Media Matters would have written about the Normandy Invasion Rehearsal.

abuse photos aren’t so great, but they’re not as bad as Saddam Hussein, the new yardstick for American democracy

Saddam murdered 8 million people. These 10 or so idiots who have not been accused of murdering anyone will soon be in Federal Prison.

You can’t use a yardstick to measure things that are light-years apart.

liberals are working for the other side, Senator McCarthy told me so

Howard Dean told us that we were no safer with Saddam Hussein out of power. John Kerry does not believe there should even be a War on Terror.

The terrorist strategy worked perfectly in Spain. But their work continues, and it is certainly not the Right that is aiding their cause.

in light of the fact that everything we said about invading Iraq is exactly the opposite, we’re still right

We invaded Iraq after they repeatedly violated UN Sanctions. Even if evidence were uncovered that the weapons were destroyed, which certainly has not happened, that would still not excuse the violations.

whatever does go wrong, is not our fault, even though we run the three branches of government

Crimes were committed. Crimes are being punished. Unless you think George W. Bush is supposed to have the abilities of Tom Cruise in Minority Report, I think you are being more than unrealistic. If Presidents left office everytime someone in uniform committed a crime, we would have had a lot more than 43 presidents.

Oliver, I think you need to be careful around the Blue Kryptonite.

Nice commentary, and I love your format -- so easy and pleasant to read. Check out my latest post for a newly-minted crackpot theory re why the media are trying to aid and abet the enemy:

Good post. That's one hell of a strawman Oliver erected over there. He used to be my favorite left-of-center blogger, mainly because of his independence on a number of issues. But he's gotten so predictable lately, there's no point to even reading him anymore.

I thought about commenting on this at his blog, but I decided against disturbing his echo chamber.
